On 17th July, 2024, academics from the Department of English, University of Hyderabad in collaboration with Dartmouth and Southern Responses to Displacement (UCL) advertised a Call for Papers for a conference on “Displacement”.
Positing displacement as a prominent theme of migration studies, the CFP had ruminated on its multiple facets: displacement could be political, tied to the violence inherent in processes and conflicts of state formation, or it could be occurring due to ecological disasters. We had asked for academic responses to displacement, regarding (but not limited to) its socio-political characteristics, its effect on marginalized and vulnerable populations, and the conversations between displacement and climate change.
While we have already received an outstanding number of responses, we are cognizant of the rapid changes in the international political landscape between 2023 and now, and we are aware of their manifold implications for the theme of displacement. Accordingly, we also want to incorporate more discussion on the theme by young and upcoming researchers. Therefore, in continuation to the above-mentioned CFP, we would like to invite abstracts ONLY for a roundtable discussion, which will be in hybrid mode (on line and in-person). Please note that only students and research scholars are invited to present at the roundtable.
This three-day International Conference (Hybrid Mode) is hosted by the Department of English, University of Hyderabad in collaboration with Dartmouth College, New Hampshire, USA, and Southern Responses to Displacement, UCL, UK. It is an Institution of Eminence (IoE) funded conference. The Conference will be held at the University of Hyderabad in Hybrid-Mode from 23rd to 25th April, 2025.
The areas for the discussion in the roundtable are (but not limited to) the following:
- Narrating Displacement
- Affective geographies
- The politics and economics of Displacement
- Alienation Trauma
- Linguistic Displacement
- (Re)Gendered identities and relations
- The inner worlds of displacement (spiritual, psychological etc.)
- Climate change
