The Southern Responses to Displacement project, in partnership with the Centre for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS), is organising a closed workshop titled “South-South Collaborations in Diplomatic and Humanitarian Responses to Conflict and Displacement”, taking place on Wednesday, 26 February 2025, in Doha, Qatar. Leading the workshop will be Prof. Elena Fiddian-Qasmiyeh, the Principal Investigator of the Southern Responses to Displacement project and Professor of Migration and Refugee Studies at University College London, alongside Dr. Ghassan ElKahlout, Director of the Centre for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies. This workshop, designed as a collaborative effort, will be a timely forum for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to carry out an in-depth examination of the critical roles played by ‘Southern’ and ‘non-traditional’ actors in tackling the pressing issues of conflict and displacement, particularly centring the contexts in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon.

Multiple sessions of the workshop will delve into the key themes of the Southern Responses to Displacement project, exploring the nuanced categories, labels, and definitions pertinent to Southern and non-traditional responses, analysing the complex interplay—both complementary and contradictory—between ‘Southern’ and ‘Northern’ responses, and focusing on strategies to enhance South-South cooperation. The discussions generated from this forum will culminate in a comprehensive Policy Brief, which will serve as a critical component of the project’s final outputs.
